Minutes of the Board of Directors for the USGenWeb Census Project Meeting held November 3, 2003 via Internet using mIRC beginning at 9:02 PM EDT and ending at 10:05 PM EDT. Present: Ron Eason Ellen Horner Sandy Onbey April Phillips Connie Burkett A quorum being set, the meeting was called to order by Ellen Horner. Officer, board, or standing committee reports: None Special orders addressed: None Minutes of the October 6, 2003 meeting, had not yet been sent and will be reviewed at the December meeting. Old Business: SERVICE MARK: Ron Eason stated that our current status as of October 23rd is listed as: Final review prior to publication has been completed, application will be published for opposition. Ron told us that until this is published there is nothing more to do. After it is published then we will have to file an "Intent to Use" document. New Business: DISCLAIMER: Sue Soden had requested that we discuss posting a "Disclaimer" on our website. The wording Sue submitted was discussed and it was decided that there were a couple of things that needed to be reworked. This was tabled until the next meeting when more examples could be submitted and a decision made at that time. SPONSORSHIP: A motion was made by April Phillips and seconded by Sandy Onbey that Sue Soden be granted permission to contact certain entities regarding sponsorship for our Census Project. Motion #2004-2 was carried with 4 aye votes...3 no votes due to members being absent. 501 (c) STATUS FILING: A suggestion was made that we may wish to consider also applying for 501 (c) or at least starting the process. Ron will gather further information about the procedure and it will be discussed further in December. DONATION STATEMENT: Connie suggested we temporarily add the following statement regarding donations to our home pages: If you feel this website has provided you with census information useful to your research and would like to show your appreciation, a tax deductible contribution to our host, USGenNet, would be greatly appreciated. USGenNet provides the server space and bandwidth for the transcribed census files created by our volunteers an dfor our web-pages. USGenNet is a true nonprofit 501(C)(3) corporation. Please let USGenNet know you are donating on behalf of The USGenWeb Census Project. Sandy Onbey made a motion that the Board of Directors permit the posting of the donation statement on our website. April Phillips seconded the motion. Motion #2004-3 was carried with 4 aye votes and 3 no-votes due to members not present. mIRC CHANNEL NAME: It was decided to leave the name of the channel where we meet on mIRC the same as it is now.
