Minutes of the Board of Directors for the USGenWeb Census Project Meeting held 07 September 2004 via Internet using mIRC beginning at 8:30 PM EDT and ending at 9:16 PM EDT. Member present: Ellen Horner Veda Mendoza Sandy Onbey April Phillips Connie Burkett A quorum being set, the meeting was called to order by Ellen Horner. Officer, board, or standing committee reports: None Special orders addressed: None Minutes of the August 2004 meeting as sent electronically have been received by all present and there being no discussion or corrections are accepted as sent. Old Business: DISCLAIMER: Connie revised some of the wording in our disclaimer to make it shorter and yet have it say all we needed it to say to that those that link to the disclaimer read it instead of just seeing there’s a long disclaimer and leaving. The revision is as follows: Disclaimer The USGenWeb Census Project®, assumes no responsibility for the use of or the ensuing repercussion from the use of any information posted on our website, www.us-census.org. This includes, but is not limited to errors, omissions, assumptions, or conclusions. In no event will The USGenWeb Census Project® be held responsible for, and explicitly disclaims any liability for damages of any kind arising from the use of, misuse of, inability to use, reference to, or reliance on the information posted on this website, even if The USGenWeb Census Project® has been advised of errors, and/or omissions. There are no warranties, written or implied. The USGenWeb Census Project®, neither endorses nor is affiliated with any product, service or opinion contained in any website that is linked from our website or websites that link to our website. We do not use pop-ups nor endorse pop-ups that might be used by websites that we link to, or that link to our website. If you find pop-ups after visiting our site, it would have to be from other web-sites that were visited, or possibly by third party software installed on the computer in use. Veda Mendoza made a motion that we accept the revised version of the disclaimer and Sandy seconded the motion. It was moved and seconded that the Disclaimer reflect the changes agreed on and a vote was cast. The motion (2005-1) was passed with 4 ayes, 1 not voting, and 2 not present. NEW SERVER STATUS: Connie told us that everything is moved from the older server to the newer server except for some of the email-lists. After all the lists get moved, the server will be disconnected and packed up. They will be starting the 2005 drive this month. They might get a late start because of the hurricane in Florida. WEB LINK VALIDATOR: Connie reported that we had discussed several software packages last month, but I've not had time to look at any of them to see which would be best for us. It was decided to table the discussion since we need to make a choice of which one is best for the link checking we should be doing. FTTP vs FTP Connie reported that all of the state assignment web-pages that had FTP://ftp links have been changed except for one state. The http URLs will keep the PCs that have firewalls from choking when they display our transcribed FTP files. SEARCH ENGINE: Connie said the server administrator is working on having our Search Engine separate from the rest of USGenNet's searches. Our Search Engine web-page is filled with EXCLUDE'S to keep the other domains on USGenNet from appearing in our Search Results. When we are separated, she is hoping that she’ll be able to change the Search Results screen to look more like our pages with blue background instead of yellow. SUE SODEN: It was agreed that we ask she if we could list her as a CONSULTANT without an email addy until she is ready to return and then all we need to do is re-add her new email address. WAYNE DUNCAN: Since no one has yet heard from Wayne, it was decided to table this until next month. MEETING NIGHTS: It was agreed to leave our meeting nights on Tuesday until Veda completes her classes. NEW BUSINESS: mIRC: Sandy will add a note in her next SC announcement telling them not to worry about the bug and us holding off logging in until the bug is fixed [21:15] Next meeting Oct. 5, 8 EST The meeting was adjourned by Ellen Horner at 9:16 PM to reconvene on 05 October 2004 at 8:00 PM
