No page # (stamped) available. When I copied the pages, I had to exclude the top of the page in order to include all lines. I numbered them as I went, using the "written" no. on the page, rather than the "stamped". I have included the written #. Also not transcribed or included: REFERENCE, LINE # (many are skipped, some are not shown on my copies), REAL EST, REAL_EST. VALUE, MARRIED, SCHOOL ATTENDANCE, READ_WRITE, AND DEAF. 2) On the 1860 Mackinac Census, I BELIEVE "M" in the "color" column refers to "METIS", rather than "Mulatto". I'm not certain where to check this out; however the area had MANY Indians and Mixed-Blood, or Metis. You'll also notice that some are marked "IND M." I didn't know whether that had special significance or not, but included it as marked. 3) Because of the high occurrence of Indian, Metis, and French-American names, you will find many that are uncommon to other areas. Some have many variant spellings (as I've found in my own research!) I copied/spelled them exactly as they appeared on the census, whether or not I was familiar with a variant spelling. 4) VERY IMPORTANT: Entries from Page 39, Line 19 (Dw# 712, Fam# 360) THROUGH Page 61, line 36 (Dw# 731, Fam# 379) are ALL Native Americans. The names are VERY difficult to read, and I don't feel qualified to transcribe them. I have sent a list of them to the coordinator of the Mackinac Co. GenWeb page; she was going to try to find someone there to transcribe them. They are NOT included in this file. 5) Proofreader: I proofread, as I have no access to others who could do this. I believe I checked it carefully. I hope you will find this satisfactory and useful. Best Regards, Judy King
