ABOUT ADAMS COUNTY:  
Adams County was created on January 22, 1800, from part of York County.  It was named 
for John Adams, the second President of the United States.

Its county seat is Gettysburg, which between July 1 and July 3, 1863, was the site of
the bloodiest and most significant battle of the American Civil War.  As a result, 
Adams County is a center for Civil War-related tourism. 

President Dwight D. Eisenhower had his retirement home just outside of Gettysburg.
