Minutes of the Board of Directors for the USGenWeb Census Project

Meeting held 2 September 2002 via Internet using mIRC beginning at 9:10 PM EDT
and ending at 10:01 PM EDT.

A quorum being set, the meeting was called to order by Wayne Duncan.

Officer, board, or standing committee reports: None

Special orders addressed: None

Minutes of the 5 August 2002 meeting as sent electronically have been received
by all present and there being no discussion or corrections are accepted as sent.

Old Business:

 USTPO:
  Wayne Duncan is working on a response to the USTPO and is including excerpts
  from the USGENWEB web pages. He will also bring up the fact that the service
  mark for the USGenWeb had been finished up and registered in addition to the
  Archives that was the first to be registered.

  Wayne will also send a letter to GENEWEB requesting a waiver. All Board
  members present agreed that it was worth a try.

 USGENNET:
  It is believed that an agreement was reached on the price for bandwidth for
  a 6-month period and that after that period is over the agreement will be
  revisited and another increase is likely. There was an increase, but not a
  huge one. The means by which USGenNet raises the funds has not yet been
  agreed upon. Several of us agreed that we could help with a small
  contribution of our own.

New Business:

 COPYRIGHT NOTICE:
  A discussion was held regarding projected changes to the copyright notice to
  make it read in a friendlier tone especially for those researchers doing
  personal work and needing to copy a record.

  Following is the new suggested format that will be discussed further amongst
  the File Managers. The Board of Directors present at the meeting approved of
  this format.

    other organization. Non-commercial organizations desiring to
    use this material must obtain the consent of the transcriber

  It was also agreed by all present that the use of USGENWEB (US-CENSUS) would
  be better.

  Even though there were justifiable reasons pro and con, it was decided to
  start the use of this new format from this point on rather than go back and
  change all the files that are already uploaded. It was also agreed that it
  was better to leave the notice with the file rather than have it on a
  separate web page of its own.

Monday, 7 October 2002 at 9:00 PM EDT
