The Williams County in this transcription was created by the Dakota Territory legislature on January 5, 1873. North and South Dakota were admitted to the Union on November 2, 1889, as the 39th and 40th states. Williams County became a part of North Dakota. The North Dakota legislature created another Williams County on March 2, 1891, even though the first Williams County still existed.
